Haemoglobin measurement by point-of-care devices- a need of the hour: study conducted on antenatal females

Background: Haemoglobin measurement in antenatal care can help timely detection and treatment of anaemia, which is a major contributory factor to maternal mortality developing countries. The transport samples for haemoglobin assessment may delay the treatment, resulting preventable deaths. by point testing (POCT) devices easy, quick less invasive. There are very few studies compare capillary blood using with venous samples. This study was conducted POCT device haematology analysers Indian females.Methods: One hundred pregnant women were recruited during their first trimester visits. Hemoglobin finger prick sample compared analysed analyser (Beckman coulter) considered as gold standard. Intraclass correlation co-efficient based on Bland Altman analysis computed SPSS v21. A p value than 0.05 statistically significant.Results: intraclass coefficient 0.97 recorded central laboratory reference standard, mean difference -0.481 gm% -0.482 samples, respectively (p<0.0001).Conclusions: good agreement between (POCT device) (haematology analyser) achieved.
